Grey Box Forest - dad's shots

My dad took all the photos from our latest visit to the Grey Box Forest near the Eynesbury housing estate and I was on ID duty. First we visited the swamp on Troups Road and saw Black-fronted Dotterels, Blackd-winged Stilt, White-fronted Chat and Golden-headed Cisticola.
In the woodland there were Thornbills, Parrots, Treecreepers and Robins, along with others, including a new bird, a pair of Restless Flycatchers who were hunting insects over a pond and making strange grinding noises.

Looks like it is sitting on eggs but maybe too early to breed

Thanks For looking!

Thanks Birdie. It really helps to have experience because I never have to worry about getting lost!
It also helps to have a second opinion when I am unsure of a bird.

Cheers, Owen.

Great collection of shots, Owen. Eynesbury is a great place for birds. We spend quite a bit of time in there when we compete in the Twitchathon.

Thanks everyone. I will tell him he has lots of praise for his shots. I can understand spending time there for the Twitchaton George. There really is lots to be found.
Any ideas where in the forest I can find a Speckled Warbler George? I found one dead on a previous visit beside the road but I can't find any alive.

Cheers, Owen.

Owen, I have only seen SW there once, when we stumbled across a group of three birds. They were on the LHS of road (as you enter the forest) about half way to the golf club. There's also an active Wedgies nest on the same side of the road.

Hi Owen, what a team you and your dad are!!! Great photos! Do you share one camera? Do you have one each, or do you have to fight for it? LOL I love the golden-headed Cisticola on the fence. It shows how tiny the are. Does your dad ever read anything on here? If not tell him everyone loves his photos.M-L

Thanks lots George. They sure are hard to find and I will remember the eagle nest.
Araminta my dad doesn't read anything here so I will tell him.

Cheers, Owen.

Sometimes restless fly catchers are mistaken for willy wagtails, especially when they're not calling. I've seen one twice, about 9 years apart here. Unfortunately, they're endangered in the Mt Lofty Ranges but a woman about 2 km from me says she has a couple around her place. Lucky her!
BTW, beaut shots, Owen. Pass my congratulations to your dad.

Thanks Woko. I only realised they weren't Willie Wagtails until I heard them calling.

Cheers, Owen.
