I braved the wind and went to the Hunter wetland centre yesterday. I was lucky enough to see some whistling kites, and tried to get photos of them flying. Not easy at all (for me!). I also got the ibises going to bed. I was grateful for the tele conversion lens as they were in the middle of a pond. There were beautiful birds everywhere, including a royal spoonbill and a yellow-tailed black cockatoo.

A nice selection of images. Good try with the flight shots. They are not easy to get.
I particularly like the ibis roosting pics too.
I can see you replacing your current camera with a DSLR and large telephoto lenses.
Keep the images coming.
Geoff.
great capture on the raptor birdgirl, i like #3 perched and the nice architecture of the branches :)
Nice series of shots Birdgirl. I've been experimenting with flight shots with average success. I tried using high speed focus on the FZ-50 which does help a little. That's the single square with the "H" option in the Focus section of the menu. Keep the photo's. coming.

Nice series of shots there Birdgirl, it looks like a very good spot to go to.
I also think its time for someone to move onto SLR's. Capturing Whistlers is extremely hard at the best of times, well done.
I used to have an SLR - a Pentax K1000 which is fully manual - but I got rid of it after I got the Lumix because I had been disappointed with all my photos for a few years. I don't know whether it was my failing eyes or the camera being more than 20 years old, but I hadn't had any photos that were very sharp or had very good colour for a long time.
George - do you prefocus if you are trying to taek photos of birds flying? Do you know how many metres away focusing to infinity is? With my SLR I think it was everything further away than 15 metres.
