Spangled Drongos down by the sea

I can't think of a better combination than a stunning winters morning up here and the park down by the harbour and seafront at Mooloolaba/Point Cartwright. The combination of the crashing sea with the rising sun sparkling on it and the beautiful bird life in the treed area next to it was just perfect !
These Spagled Drongos were fantastic and having what sounded like the family feud right in front of me before flying off into a glad to feed their chick. They were being constant harassed by the Little Wattlebirds who were very territorial over that part of the woods.

Ha ha ha .....are you looking at me??? Are you talking to me?????

hmmmm I wonder what's got up that Wattlebird's nose today?

Aren't they fantastic, with their shiny black feathers and red eyes? Great to get the baby as well. I'd love to know what it was thinking about you!!!!!

Great shots Birdie. They have strange tails and i love the red eye on them. The one with him looking at you is funny.

Cheers, Owen.

Thanks everyone.... they are a very unusual bird and the noise they make is a real cacophony!! They let me get so close as I think they were involved in a marital dispute....just look at the expressions LOL and the way they lift their ear tufts? or whatever they are makes them seem very strange indeed....that and the red eyes .

There is a bird called a drongo, you learn something new every day. Nice set, worth getting up early.

Thanks Tassie and Wolfy..... Tassie that is my favourite too and Wolfy... they are spangles because of their chest decorations and probably Drongos for their bad haircuts LOL

Great to see a whole bunch of Drongos together. They sure do look like such characters, especially the one staring you down! (third shot)

Thanks birdie. I do a bit, but the spangled drongo cat mimic movie was just for fun. Even so I had to do my best because Phoenix is very fussy about the directors she’ll work for. BTW I also looked at your nesting Drongo photos (beautiful fanned-out tail in one) and was pleased to read that they return to the same site each year. Fingers crossed…
