Welcome to my baby catbirds

AT last here is one of the baby catbirds. I now know there are two . This little one was sitting all bedraggled in the rain trying to look inconspicuous in the tree while the parent came and stole all the mango and took it back to the other one. I am sooo happy to finally be able to see them after 2-3 seasons of living with them. I love Spring :')

Congrats - not only did you get a shot but very good ones. You've cleverly colour-matched the background to its plumage. It is really cute - it looks so baby with its little fuzzy head. Hope to see many more as it grows up. I like the adult too :)

Thanks everyone..... they don't just like mango.....They LOVE it!!!

I was standing under the patio and waiting for the parent to come and investigate the seed which was covered in mushy yummy stuff still..... I saw it drop onto the fence and before AI could take two steps it had hoisted the whole mango seed in its mouth and taken off !! That was when I looked up and saw the 2nd baby in the tree behind.
I was up at 4.30 waiting for them and they didn't really show till about 6.15 ..... could've had a sleep in after all .

Thanks Tassie talent maybe LOL .... but the mango was a definite help as a lure :') When are we going to see some of your beautiful northern birds again?
I think I am just very blessed that they have chosen my garden to visit and as for the greens everyone.... it is just a part of living in Queensland.... Unfortunately the new swimming pool fencing laws mean I am going to have to lose the entire stand of Golden cane that acts as a screen and a hidy hole for many of the visiting birds..... hope they adjust and don't disappear .

Hey Birdie, I would love to take some more pics but the truth is the weather conditions are artrocious.
We had 575mm of rain here for November, the highest on record in mackay for Novemember since they started rainfall records here 140yrs ago.
We have just exceeded today 250mm of rain to kick off for December and it is absolutey bucketing down now as I type this with no end in sight, I have just been sent home from work along with many others as our houses are being surrounded by water, so I dont think I will have many oppurtunities for pics just yet especially given that this is only the start to the wet season.
I guess I am lucky to be home with my family as many of our trucks are stranded out on the highways.

Good luck with that rain Tassie ... we are having a brief rain free interlude this morning and I just managed a walk with the dog but I think it's coming back and all the talk is that we are going to have one hell of a wet this year so I feel for you up there.

I just thought I would add an update here of my baby catbird... he/she is looking ,more like a catbird every week with the face greening up and the eyes going paler . I still here it rasping a lot but as it grows it is getting more cautious. Haven't left any fruit around for a while as I didn't want to develop the habit in the young bird and with all the wet weather we have been having they are not out and about as much as before. Heard them calling at 4.30 am this morning and I don't know if it was the youngster or not but there was a kind of half call so maybe it is practising LOL

Cheers

Nice shots Birdie, hope they don't practise the call at half four every morning!

LOL without fail they call every morning Cath n Shane! I can forgive them that though and have learned to adapt .... early riser here in Summer. Remember we don't have daylight saving so it is light at 4.30

Forgot about you not having daylight saving, i used to have friends in Brisbane, and it took a bit of getting used to every time i visited (especially after a night on the silly soup!)
