Don't whiltling kites eat anything they can get? I thought they are part scavengers so he could be eating other thing as well.

I think so mate....you see them hanging around Road kill, rubbish dumps and the fringes of scrub fires.
You're right Owen. :) They are pirates, scavengers, scoundrels and they DON'T share! I had the privilege of watching one hunt out at this lagoon though. Very gracefully hovering low over some fish (carp) near the surface. Albeit a bit far for my liking to photograph. I also have a photo of one chasing a Swamp Harrier down to try and steal its food. Then I have photos of Ravens chasing a Whistling Kite, just bullying it.
Thanks for sharing - this bird is much too beautiful to be called fat!!! It is good to see it looking well fed and healthy. I would have loved to see it hunt like you did - I have only seen them perched and soaring
