Wrens

Today I went out, but the clouds we've had for months arrived before I got to my first destination. Grrr

Although the birds were far away, I had the good fortune to see a courtship flight. I stare, mesmerised, through the lens, but when I take the camera away from my eyes I realise how far away the birds really are - just specks in the sky

As I was driving along I saw 2 nankeen kestrels. This one was a lot smaller and scruffier and looks as if it might be missing a claw. Suddenly a brown falcon flew up to them and one chased it away. It flew really low, right along the road for a while. I would have loved to try for photos but there was no shoulder on the road to pull over on

I've been enjoying the wren photos on here lately, so I was glad to get the chance to get close to a wren myself

Nice ones, Birdgirl. I wonder if that's a young Australian kestrel. I guess the one that chased the brown falcon was a protective adult.

Yes Woko, that's what I was wondering. The brown falcon flew towards the smaller one (this one) and the bigger one chased it. This one had sort of a baby look about its face, not sleek feathers, and the size difference was more than the usual male/female difference
