Do you think that could be a flame robin?

Looks like a female. The out of focus branches on the right are drawing my eyes away from the bird so in my opinion don't help the image. Ideally the bird should be angled towards you with good eye contact. Angled away is ineffective. It looks like it was just about to fly away.

Top shot aa, where did you get it?

@catshane, i caught it jarrahdale wetlands :)

The female scarlet robin doesn't have that much colour on the breast. The flame robin is more orange than red. I would say that is a flame robin. Def. not a scarlet, I see them all the time.

Greg
I don't really pay a lot of attention to anything that does not eat birds in all honesty. :) I would be happy if it is a Scarlet or a Flame Robin. I would be interested to know your ID methods.
In any case, I looked in Simpson & Day and Morecombe and in both the female Flame Robin barely has any red/pink on the breast at all and has an apparently larger white patch on the forehead like this bird. If this was taken in WA then this would certainly be a Scarlet Robin as the Flame Robin is SE Aus only. Ah, and I just googled Jarrahdale Wetlands and it's in WA, so this can only be a Scarlet Robin, AND a female at that.

Ah, you have me there, windhover. I wasn't aware of the location, there is geographic variation in these things. That couldn't be a female scarlet robin at my place but they must be much more colourful in WA. Our female scarlets only have a light blush on the breast.

Hi aa, great to see you here again! I really missed your flight photos, so I hope you'll start posting some again. Your little robin is very sweet

Hi Greg
It's not about getting anyone, just doing some research into it. Right or wrong, I am not fussed, just want to make sure whoever needs help gets the right answers for their benefit. What area are you in? I'd be interested to see some photos of your female Scarlet and Flame Robins so I can understand the differences.
As for AA he should also spend some time commenting on other people's posted pictures because posting and running does nothing to being part of an online community of keen people. Instead of waiting for the "ooohs" and "aaaahs" from everyone.

thanks birdgirl and i hope so too, just been busy lately :)

yes windhover, if i have something to say i fill-in my comment/s and i'm still a learner so i still don't know what to say much :)

and as of the "ooohs" and "aaahs" i don't wait for them, i started posting here to share and enjoy what i captured in my area for everyone to see, with or without comments

cheers

You should comment aa. Just because you claim you are a learner still qualifies you to comment. It in fact, believe it or not, helps you develop your own skills. You can certainly say what you like or not about an image. :) What does aa stand for anyway?

Hi Windhover, I am near Bathurst NSW. I'm not a good photographer so don't post many photos. Our male scarlet robins have black and white on the back like a magpie lark, the females are fairly inconspicuous. We also have hooded robins and this year I saw what I think was a flame robin, looked very like the pic in this thread.

Hi aa,

I love your photo, I have photographed many birds & know how difficult it can be. Well done. I'm new on this site and am enjoying what I'm seeing.  Windhover I notice that you are the only one on this post with a photo of yourself, how about a photo of a Robin posing the way you  suggested to aa? I'm anxious to see how good you are.

Margy
