Black Swans

On NewYears Eve four Black Swan's visited the dam below the house. Whilst lots of places have Swans we have never had Swans here (upper Kiewa valley) before. Portent of things to come?

Hi mtck, nice to see you here again, hope you are well?

As for the Swans, great news, hope they stay? Last year seems to have been a good year for Swans, where ever you go, there are Swans in large numbers.

Have there been good rains in your area, mtck? Rain = productivity so there may be more bird life generally around where there have been good rains.

Rain - yes!

It was a dryish September but we had 94.5mm in October, a further 90.5mm in November and to cap off the year, 86.5mm in December bringing the total to approx 1.25m for 2012. (The total is not accurate as the 2 farmhands forgot to read the gauge whilst we were away in July/August but most people recorded around 200mm plus).

All the wet areas are now starting to dry off but there is a 'green pick' (farmer's speak for green grass) under the thatch of dry matter. I'm presuming that means there will still be snails etc as well as water plants available as a food source. I'll have a good look around in the next few days - weather and fires permitting - and see if l can find signs of other swans.

Thanks for your thoughts Araminta.

PS Why do l always get an EDIT on my postings? Have l got something not ticked or crossed?

On the bottom of your post it reads "Report Spam  Quote  Reply". On the bottom of my posts it reads  "Quote  Edit  Reply"

I'm starting to think l'm jinxed on this site. But l still like twitching!

The EDIT button allows you to quickly change anything on your own post, for example correct spelling mistakes. It changes the original post and does not create a new post on that same topic. If you all look at your posts, the edit button is there!

yes Dale, but for some reason you have to do it quickly, (very quickly), or it won't work, but delete your post.
