After years of declining numbers, suddenly European Goldfinches are in abundance here on the south eastern slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges SA. In the last couple of months I've seen flocks of up to about 80 which is rather disappointing since they're a feral species. I'm particularly worried they'll discourage Diamond Firetails from revisiting this year as I think both species occupy the same eclogical niche.
We get them along the railway line thats the only place I have seen them here in Stawell , but I have noticed a increse in numbers over the last few months I think its this years young colouring up , or they could be flocking for the winter , we would normally see flocks of 6-10 at the moment its more like 20-30 but nowhere near the flocks of 80 at a time your getting , I can see why your worried
