Trev, the bird calls on BIBY are all mp3 format, so you would be able to save them to a player and play them that way, but maybe need to ask permissions first as they are probably the subject of copyright. Unauthorised downloading isn't something most folks would encourage. But it never hurts to ask the copyright owner if they would allow usage in certain circumstances.
There are ethical issues involved in using bird call recordings to attract birds.
.
Even Environmental Assessment professionals are SUPPOSED to gain NPWS or DECC (or other suitable authorities) to do that.
.
It is often used when surveying for Owls and is generally frowned upon as constituting a significant disturbance to them.
.
And that is even when doing so for scientific purposes.

Another aspect of this idea to think about.

Good point Ed, I have seen it used recently on red backed wrens and looked for them. Interestingly just after posting my question I read some ethical standards stuff on the Australian Photographic Society site and that prompted me reconsider especially after I considered the impact on breeding pairs trying to feed a nest full of young and wasting their time on imaginary teritorial disputes.
Yes, I had to have a good think on this issue too.
It didn't really affect but, because i cant play them.
But i think it is good to have a good hard think about it.

p.s. Thinking about things is good. :)
