The Bees have moved in on the bird bath. I have noticed that the birds are keeping away. How can i deter the bees and get my birds back? Anyone have any advice? I have a new camera just waiting for the right picture but all I have is bees.
Cheers,

Birds and the Bees
We have the same problem here. I know where the hive is and I just try to put water out between there and the baths in the theory that they will stop at the nearest one. It helps a little bit but there are always bees at the baths.
If any one knows of a different method I also would be interested.
Interesting. What you need is some bee-eating birds!

We have Rainbow Bee-eaters here over the summer but I think the bee eating bit is over exaggerated. They dont exactly sit at the water bowl picking them off. (insert smiley face)
Thanks for the replies,
It seems a real problem, I have seen birds fly down and then do a quick double take at the last minute and fly off again. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it is a temporary gliche. I've never seen a bee-eater in these parts but the book says they're widespread, so I'll ask around. Interesting anyway, whether they eat bees or not!
Hi, Well I've now found out that Rainbow Bee eaters are listed for the nearby conservation park. Wish they'd come here! However, I have had some success in juggling the bird baths around. I left the bee infested one in the front yard empty for several days and voila the bees were transferred to the backyard bird bath soon after. This morning I refilled the front one and the birds are back, minus the bees. Today there were white-plumed honeyeaters, new holland honeyeaters all having a lovely time. The backyard b bath tends to be used by the sparrows and blackbirds attracted to the chooks next door anyway. Thanks to you daggert for the idea.
The little female wren that is my new avatar was taken last weekend in the Park with the Panasonic Lumix ultrazoom FZ28. I am just learning what it can do, but it's a lot of fun.
