So Upset !

Hi everyone

I am so upset & just need to let it out so please bear with me.

Our house backs on to the local primary school. We had/have quite a few gums trees along the perimeter a few metres or so from our fence line - big beautiful "bird" trees.

Well today I got home from work, & heard THAT sound - the tree mulching machine sound. Oh noooo.... Raced to the back yard and one of the big trees was gone. That upset me ! Yeah I know gum trees are susceptible to falling down & falling on houses or even worse children but as far as I could see it wasn't at risk & it had been there for a long time.

But what has upset me more is that I think the local Butcher bird family had nested in that tree, I am pretty certain that I heard baby bird squawking from that tree over the weekend. Now it's all gone !!! The birds have just come in for their nightly feed and there was lots & lots of "talking" between them, much more than usual. Wish I knew what they were saying ! Last year Marge & Homer, the magpies had their nest in that tree, they made a new nest in a different tree this year, thank god.

Thanks for listening - I just needed to tell someone.

Hi Birdyboys
Sorry to hear about your tree going.
In NSW there have been serious moves on trees near schools, for legal reasons (recent court cases). Perhaps that is your problem.
The Butcherbirds will surely nest again, provided other trees are still around. It is early in hte season, still.
Cheers
Denis

Bird Boys So Upset I fully understand your anguish.
Were you not informed by Council or other Authority ? then you may have only had to prune? I would protest re lack of information.

My home , in natural bushland, has an Electricity Power line running through. Every two years it is pruned by the Company supplier. They are supervised & are kept to carring out the work strickly accordingly to Law.

Its so sad when this happens. I dread that sound of tree lopping.

They *should* have checked the tree first for nests...
