Turning heads

I wonder, how different bird's spines would have to be to ours, looking at what angle they can turn their heads.
Illustrated in those photos (although a bit fuzzy)

head up:

180 degrees back, how different to what we can do!

Any thoughts on this? M-L

I guess a longer neck helps :D That means more bones in the spinal chord in the neck allowing greater flexibility! Apparently humans have 7 and owls have 14. Look up pictures of bird skeletons and admire those slender, long neck bones :)
Great for eating at ridiculous angles and at the same time looking for danger. Also, those back feathers are not going to preen themselves!

Thanks Taz, I like your sense humour. (I guess some people would like to be able to turn their heads like that. Teachers are a seperate bread though, they have eyes in the back of their heads) LOL M-L

Hehe some of it must have been rubbed off from you :P
LOL that is so true with teachers. Don't forget Parents as well, they must have superhuman senses to catch me playing games on the computer EVERYTIME.
