ground runner

Can anyone tell me what the name of this bird?

I live at Marsden Park and I see a blackish coloured bird, about the size of a starling, that I see running and hopping along the ground, usually around bushes. Thanks

Sounds like a male Common Blackbird (Turdus merula), which is a European import. Check that he has an orange bill and ring around his eyes. They usually sing at dawn from a high vantage point and have an absolutely wonderful and melodic song.

Thanks for that, but these birds don't have an orange/yellow bill, they are a black/brown bill. On closer inspection, some of the birds have dark brown mottles, while the others are black. They are foraging on the ground however, as in the description for the blackbird.

Could well be female Blackbird, though I doubt they'd be in a group. In that case, maybe an immature blackbird. :)

Definitely sounds like blackbirds, they can be brown as well as black. They should me making a lot of noise - listen to the beatles song and decide if you are hearing anything similar.
