Interesting tawny frogmouth behaviour

I had an interesting observation of tawny frogmouth behaviour the other night when I got home.

The bird was standing up on the pole on the building site next door and stretching it's wings out, then twisting to the right with wings stretched out pointing up and down then twisting to the left with the wings still stretched out, then twisting back upright and stretching both wings down towards the ground.

He/she did this for a few minutes, then flew across to my back stairs and did the same thing for a while, before I got out of the car and disturbed it and it flew off.

It was really interesting, like bird yoga, or stretching. I wonder whether it might have been drying it's wings, as there was a little bit of rain around.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before or have any ideas about it?

No, timmo. Not yet, anyway. It's perhaps strange that being such a cryptic bird it should do all this stretching near you.
