Mistletoe Bird Feeding on Berries

This afternoon, without my camera, I had a wonderful 5 minutes view of a male mistletoe bird feeding on the young fruit of a Native Apricot Pittosporum phylliraeoides. The bird was only 2 metres from me & seemed completely unfussed by my presence. It's about the third time I've seen a mistletoe bird in this tree but the first that I've noticed it feeding on the young fruit. It's also the first time I've seen a mistletoe bird at our place at this time of the year. All of the mistletoes have finished fruiting by now but there must be sufficient Native Apricot fruit to attract this one now.

That's really cool Adrian. I once had one male extremely close myself when I didn't have my camera. Typical. They are such a wonderful species making their little hanging nests out of spiderweb and caterpillar droppings.
