Montecollina Bore - Stzelecki Track

Montecollina is a natural attraction for the surrounding wildlife especially when it is 40c+

Not all birds either :-)

(Please excuse the stray url line,Smugmug has recently changed what they offer in

embeddable code and I haven't worked it out properly yet)

Wow, you've captured the water really nicely in the first pic!

Is that you in the last pic? I would never be able to bring myself to go that deep in the water with my camera!

Nice photos. That first one is a classic .... great work.  Corella is enjoying that refreshing water.

Great shots Rick! it looks like a great place to go birding. It would seem that perhaps one of those floating bird hides is needed in that last photo :P Though you said it was very hot, the water must have been refreshing!

Thanks for sharing!

2 = Black Kite, 3 = Chirruping Wedgebill, 4 = Bluebonnet

Shorty will tell you how hard Bluebonnet are to shoot ;-))

Some interesting shots here and two new species for me in fact I haven't even heard of a "Chirruping Wedgebill".

I tend to agree with Hellobirdy as far as going that deep in the water with my camera. Knowing my luck I would slip and it would be Good-bye camera and lens. Were you sat down or stood up?

why are Bluebonnet so hard to shoot? Aren't  they aggressive birds that will kill other parrots? That's what BIBY says anyway?

my experience has been that they are shy birds but a water source is a wonderful place to photograph them, I seem to recall that Shorty also had difficulty getting his 1st pic of them

Thanks all for your comments and for the ID explanations.

Have just got back from Gluepot so have been otherwise engaged :-)

Happy to show anyone around some of our great birding areas down here.

Standing Reflex, slight crouch.
