This guy turned up in our backyard last Thursday and Friday mornings. It seemed unpeturbed by the masses of wattlebirds flying in and out of our garden nor by my presence about 5 metres away. In body size it is similar to a mynah, its back is a very dark chocolate brown.
Any suggestions as to what it may be? In my 60 years in this neighbourhood I have not sighted one before.
That is a great shot. I think it looks good for a Grey Butcherbird.

Burrowing into my copy of Cayley, I now see that our visitor was a juvenile...this might explain its relative tameness and curiosity.
Yes, a young Grey Butcherbird. They can be very confiding, and have quite a song as well.
