Yesterday a Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater put in a rare appearance here. All previous visits have been in early summer. I'm wondering if the flowering SA Blue Gums Eucalyptus leucoxylon are the attractant although I'm not sure that flowering gums are this specie's usual food source.
I'm yet to see one of these birds in SA. I've only ever seen them in Darwin.
I doubt you would have seen Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters in Darwin, Kimbolina. Their range extends northwards to about Katherine.
