Striped with jade green wings

I have no idea what this is. Can't find it on the bird finder. Striped breast, jade green coloured wings, small size.  Was high up in my liquidamber which is growing leaves so hard to get a good clear shot. This was about the best and I've had to crop it.  It had a long single note as its call.

Have never seen or heard one of these before.  Love seeing 'new' birds!

Could be Shining Bronze Cuckoo Kathie. Nice find.

Funny how it's not a bronze colour though. Never seen a cuckoo and the sound isn't what I would have expected.  I guess I'm still naive when it comes to bird watching. Thank you.

I would go for Horsefield's Bronze-Cuckoo, the stripes on the chest are not continuous.

You know, I always thought a cuckoo would make a sound that sounded like 'cuckoo'.  Perhaps I listened to too many cuckoo clocks when I was a kid laugh

It looks more like that, looking at images online but listening to the birdcall on sample at the birdfinder, it didn't sound like that at all.

Haha, the bird that makes that cuckoo sound like the clock, would be a cuckoo in Europe, but in Australia, the bird that makes a cuckoo sound during the night, is a Boobook. Confused?crying

Yes, I'd say it's a Horsfield's bronze-cuckoo for the reason stated by Araminta. I saw one today with the light reflecting from its bronze wings. Quite spectacular.

Hi I have photograped a similar bird in the Boolarra State Forest.  I also thought it to be a Horsefield's Bronze Cuckoo.

This is a Fan-tailed Cuckoo, if I'm not mistaken. (looks like a juvenile?) Nice photos, well done.

Thanks so much they all look very similar at a distance.

The fan-tailed cuckoo is somewhat larger than the several bronze cuckoos.
