Channel Bills, Koels and all things Northern

Well it looks like the summer has arrived ..... this morning I was awakened by the first raucous screeching of the CBC...yay !!! The Koels are calling every morning since last week, and the Pheasant Coucals have been whooping for about 10 days. Saw my first Spangled Drongo 2 weeks ago.... so welcome back to our summer guys.... don't forget to get your passport stamped LOL

Yes, I've been hearing the CBCs almost every day now. So glad to have them back. Saw a crow chase one out of a tree early the other morning. They can certainly fly fast.

CBCs have arrived near me two weeks ago tomorrow. No Koels just yet though. They were last last spring as well.

Very cool, birdie!
I don't think I get CBCs around me, but have been listening out for the Koels... none so far.

Cheers

It's maaaaaaaaaarvellous to hear the enthusiasm from channel-billed cuckoo & koel country. Makes me wish I was there to share in it. Then again, if I did that I'd be missing the arrival of rainbow bee eaters & cockatiels here in the south Mt Lofty Ranges.

I agree... I miss those northern sounds of Summer (I'm originally a queenslander)... But am quite happy to have Swift Parrots instead... We can't have it all, all at once anyway!!
Scott.

Yes Scott there is something very special when summer arrives .... especially when you live as near to rainforest and the streets have all treed areas as I do. It is very Jurassic at times LOL....come to think of it ...that Channel Bill call conjures up images of pterodactyl types flying LOL

Saw my first dollarbird the other day, so that pretty much completes the migratory stuff I think. Am hearing the Wurrow wurrow call of the koels every day now, so I guess they have found their mates or are in the process of it. I think the local CBC's didnt stop long as havent heard them since the first week.
