Hi all,
We'd just like to share with you that we have double bar finches currently building a nest in a large lime tree in our backyard in Tingalpa in suburban Brisbane.
They built a nest there last season and we've spotted them occasionally returning to the tree throughout the year, but today they are picking pieces of dried grass, small twigs and mulch from the yard and returning to the tree.
Very cute.
That's very cool Spud.
Are you next to parkland/grasslands at all?
.
I've seen them around locally, but never at home. From the places I have seen them, they seem to prefer trees on the edges of grasslands and/or near creeks.
.
Cheers

They are fairly shy and often hide or fly away if there is human activity in the backyard, but I was lucky enough that this one was still enough to pose for the camera. You can see part of the nest obscured to the left. It's roundish in shape with a side entrance.
@timmo We're about two blocks from a creek / small bush reserve area.
Cheers!
