Guillie suit

I saw this tremendous suit today that would be great for bird photography ... but who among us would be brave enough to wear it in public?

Birdgirl, most people who know me, would say, Marie-Louise would ! Yes, they are absolutly right, I would !!! Even to the local shops. Get one, bring your the camera , I WILL DO IT !!

Now that's a challenge if ever I heard one! You would have to take many, many close-up bird photographs if you owned a suit like that

I know a person who's friend does that and the photos he gets are brilliant.

I could do with one of those so the birds don't fly away from me. It would be nice to sneak within inches without them knowing!

Cheers, Owen.

There's a few versions of these around now we used to call the top one a "yowie" suit there popular with hunters.
i would love to see someone go shopping in one that really would be a "kodak moment"
A note on camouflage.
To be able to sneak up on birds we should look at some of the research done by hunting groups and others
A lot of birds can see ultra violet,we put uv enhancers in in washing powder to make coulors seem brighter, so we look like big neon signs to them no matter how we try to stay hidden, try washing your "birding "clothes in pure soap, duck hunters have been doing this for years.

Ahh sparrow, no wonder they see me all the time even when I'm sitting still. Silly UV enhancers ):

Are you kidding Sparrow???? UV enhancers??? Where did you pick that little gem up from ? we love and learn don't we LOL
Obviously Kim, I don't need a new lens, I just need one of these suits so that I can practically sit on top of the birds and get the best out of my equipment .... and maybe then I will actually be able to see them instead of just hearing them and staring wildly into foliage :')

Hi Birdie, all you will have to do, is to stick a few leaves in your ears, strap some branches to your head, and pretend to be a tree. (isn't that what they used to do in the army?) We went to the "Coolart Wetlands" today, mostly staring into the foliage. We heard and saw lots of birds, and some cute swamp rats. Good day, not many photos, very dark and cold. THE place to go to, though!! Waiting for a nice day!!

Hi all, you can get these from aussie disposals, they also have a chair with a camo covering over it.

Thanks Cath and Shane, will go there on Monday!!! Just hope I won't get arrested, when the police find me hiding in the bushes.(LOL), I will have to explain, why I'm hiding behind trees with a camera!

I have a ghillie suit too, and I never use it. It's made for army snipers and is made of materials that make it undetectable by heat and UV seeking equipment. Good for Al Quaida I guess, but awkward for my style of photography. I really must get a friend to take a photo of me wearing it. The damn thing gets caught in branches etc, so I find it useless for photography. A better investment (though I had one made) is a bag hide or bag blind. I have been able to get almost full frame portraits of a Sacred Kingfisher using this simple bag. Again, I am not keen on blinds, as they lock you into one spot for ages and I do dread what I may miss out on further around that "next" corner. Here is the link to the Sacred Kingfisher in my Tree Kingfisher album. The first two shots, I lay on the ground some 3m from the perch which he/she used to land on before entering the nest (and coming out of the hollow as well). The last two were from the bag hide in 35 degree heat. Pretty hot and uncomfortable.
