Orange-bellied Parrot and much more!!!

I also saw 4 Australian Spotted Crakes, Little Grassbirds, a pair of White-bellied Sea Eagles, Red-kneed Dotterel, Red-necked Avocet and Zebra Finch.
I had an amazing day and I will post all the shots later.
They did an OBP survey today around VIC and didn't find any so we were even luckier to see them!

Good work mate! I'd be stoked if I could see one in the wild, that should've been excellent, I get majorly excited whenever I see a new bird, but one as rare as that wow! Looks like a beautiful bird watching spot you've got there, looking forward to the photos :)

Wow! You are so lucky owen, I wish I could see a bird like that. I haven't seen any of those birds in the wild (or at least as far as I can remember).

Thanks guys. The other area we just explored is even better so I'm looking forward to more visits.

Cheers, Owen.

Hi Debbie.

Yes Debbie, Chris Purnell did receive a sighting and photos from me.

Careful, careful, guys. There are unscrupulous people out there who would just love to reduce the OBP population to feather their own nests.

You may be Right Woko but it is very unlikely that the parrots will still be in the same place because they have the whole treatment plant to rome so I don't think those relentless twitchers will have much chance.

Cheers, Owen.

Alright, alright maybe I sholdn't have given anything away so next time it will simply be 'undisclosed location'!

Cheers, Owen.

Owen, I agree with Woko, please be careful!!!!I have talked about it before!Giving out exact locations of endangered birds is not a good idea! Neither is giving Phone No,and ringing people, or talking off line!! Don't be too trusting!(even if I put my foot into anything again here, I had to warn you, sorry if I offended anyone!) M-L

Debbie, please don't take offence. We weren't meaning you, we were meaning the other people who can see the forum.
I shouldn't have given that much detail and it shows that I still have loads to learn but I'm only young so let me off this time!!!

Cheers, Owen.

Hi Debbie, one of the unfortunate side effects of forums is, not only do people like Owen and you read this. Sometimes it is best for the birds not to publish too much. I have no idea, how many people read what is said here, members and non-members. ( You were obviously one of them?!). And if you go on now, puting the location up on facebook, and who knows where else, I bet my life on it, people with big lenses, and lots of gear will be turning up on the weekend, to find those birds. Sorry, the fact, that you have arranged media coverage, does not reassure me. Sorry again, for beeing a bit harsh, but I only want, what's best for those endangered birds.

Removing the bird's location and I ask that people don't advertising the sighting.

Folks, I'm not so much worried about a lot of lense-wielding twitchers turning up to view the OBPs although that can be a problem in itself. I'm more concerned about bird trappers. Years ago, before I even became interested in birds, I understand OBPs were trapped in considerable numbers in the Coorong & this was an important, & regrettable, factor in their now precarious status.
It's a real dilemma as to how much information needs to be in the public arena about endangered species. To acquire resources to conserve them requires people in high places having information. And how much can we trust people in high places these days???!!
If we are to make public, for the best of reasons, information about the location of endangered species we need to be ultra, extremely & hyper vigilant about preventing untoward behaviour towards the species.

Hi Debbie,I don't want to take this discussion up again, but have to tell you, you are wrong saying you didn't ask for locations.Yes you did! Have a look at what you said on the 24th at 8.43pm. I quote: Could I ask for a bit more detail? I would so appreciate some more directions.
(that was not in regards of any photos)
...end of discussion...M-L

What has just happened in this thread is why the edit function should be of limited duration. Seems to be quite suspicious behaviour to delete all the content of your posts.

Alison, the deleting was done in the interest of protecting an endangered species, "the Orange-bellied Parrot". Young Owen at the time, had given some detailed information about the location where it could be found. (needless to say, Owen regretted to have done it). Holly did the best thing, by deleting the information.

Debbie also asked me to delete her posts. Given the age of the thread and its nature I have done that.

Good to know that this was not as it seemed afterall  ... thanks for clearing that up!

I realised the info about the OBP location was deleted a long while ago in the interest of those birds which was great work.
