Pacific Bazza nest

Hi guys I'm new and thought I would share my lovely experiences with you. I live on the Mid North Coast of NSW and we are lucky enough to have a Pacific Bazza nest in our gum tree. There are presently two gorgeous, fluff balls in the nest and they are growing bigger every day. Today I had the local Birders come and have a look and they were enthralled. They were extremely lucky to see one of the parents fly in and feed a frog to one of the chicks.

I'm not sure how long they stay in their nest for but the chicks have been spreading their wings a lot lately. I'm guessing it won't be long before the Noisy Miners let me know they have started flying lessons.

One of the Birders took a photo today and I will post it when he emails me a copy. I can't wait to see it.

I have been a bird watcher all my life and with a father named John Gould, who could blame me? Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Gouldy

Welcome Gouldy. Wow how lucky you are to have a bird like that nest in your gum tree. Looking forward to seeing the photos especially of the fluff balls. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gouldy, I did a bit of calculating, the John Gould I was talking about, could only have been your grandfather? Right?

No relative actually. Just share the name. :)

I'm really pleased to say that the Pacific Bazza's are nesting in our trees again this season. Even better, they have chosen a tree just outside my kitchen door where I keep the binoculars. How very convenient for me to observe them daily.

They have been building the nest for about 3 or 4 weeks and now one of them has settled in, meaning of course that the eggs have been layed. The male and female share the incubation so it's hard to know which one of them is in the nest at any given time.

The eggs will hatch about mid November just prior to me going overseas, so I will miss the first two weeks of the chicks. Still, my parents, who are minding the house, will be lucky enough to get to see them.

I still haven't put the photos up of the chicks from last season but I will get around to it...when I work out how to do it.

Hello Gouldy. Loved hearin about the Pacific Baza family and REALLY looking forward to the photos :D Last year a pair with a chick moved slowly thru our place near Port Macquarie - was so excited to see it. They stayed mostly high in the treetops but one swooped down and snatched a stick insect from our verandah. So cool! Never saw them again tho :(

Happy birdwatching!

By my calculations the eggs should hatch over the next week or two and then the fun and games will start. At present the male and female are taking turns incubating the eggs. I will keep you all posted.

There names, just so you know, are Gazza and Shazza the Bazza's.
