PloverNest

This week, observing a plover guarding its nest, containing an egg, in the middle of the median strip, Pacific Highway.
Only one bird - wondering if the mate has already been hit by a car? Wondering also, how long either this parent, and/or it's egg, are going to last?
People crossing the highway, of course, are met with opposition by the bird when they come too close, and when the bird takes off, it's often into the path of cars - busy traffic area.
When there's so much natural bush around in the vicinity, it's interesting that this bird selects such an exposed area - so flat, so noisy with passing traffic less than a meter from the nest - and the egg will have no hope if council mowers come through any time soon.
