A few weeks ago, my partner (Anna) called me out to the front yard and pointed to the top of a tree next door. Two large grey birds with huge curved beaks had swooped in on a Currawong nest and eaten one of the eggs - causing a racket with currawongs and Australian minors.
We had never seen a bird like these, so I suggested we look at the BIBY site to see if it could identify them.
We went to the site and Anna chose two options from the bird finder - grey (colour) and a shape (number 5). We scrolled down the results and there was our bird - the channel-billed cuckoo.
It was too easy! We were able to show the kids and let them listen to its call. So, the site actually works - in the real world :)
Pleased the Bird finder worked for you. Did you know that you can also log your record into the Channel-billed Cuckoo survey at http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/surveys/channel-bill.cfm?
