do birds have sex for fun?

As we are fast approaching winter, and all birds in my garden have finished their breading, I just watched two superb Fairy Wrens," mate". Would they still be breading, or could they just "have sex for fun"? Or could it be a dominance ritual? Don't think so, this male has plenty of partners as far as I can tell!

I visited a lake in my area on sunday and saw some fairy wrens that looked like they had just fleged just managing to get airborn, because of all the rain theres so many insects around and i think this could be keeping them breading

I am almost certain that my catbirds have produced another fledgling. I saw it last evening at dusk and heard it rasping...it looked a little older than my avatar shot but I am not sure how long the chicks take to become mature..... the last lot would have to be 4-5 months old I would think now. I guess they could be like a magpie and scream for food even though they look older! there is just not enough info available on them for me to investigate .
If this is another juv..then it would be the third lot for the summer season and I am not even sure if this is possible for them!
