saw the funniest thing on my morning walk yesterday.... two gorgeous wood ducks ( a pair)high up a really tall gum tree. they looked so unusual muttering away to each other. I was wondering if maybe something had chased them there
Naturally I didn't have a camera to capture the sight!

They are also called tree ducks because they do nest in tree hollows although I don't think they always do.

Thanks Bushy, I really didn't know that. I was looking for loris in the nesting box in the same tree and suddenly I saw one of them - it just looked so odd sitting up there, then I could hear the muttering and realised there was another right above me on a higher branch. they are my favourite duck.

Aha, agree, saw a pair today inspecting some trees (must be breeding season), they're call has got to be the best ever. Must be breeding season for alot of the birds, the Eastern Rosellas and Lorikeets were all busy at some hollows and I saw some ravens carrying big pieces of bark around and stuff and the masked lapwings are going crazy at eachother (but then again they always do that). Hopefully I'll be able to find some nests and stuff next time and get some photos of some wood ducks in the trees :D
