Welcome Swallows

Most of you will remember all the photos I posted of the Baby Swallows in the nest. They had all grown up and left ages ago. Yesterday I noticed some poo on the car, it;s parked under the old nest. It's dark now, but I just saw two W Swallows sitting next to the nest sleeping. What should I make of this?  They wouldn't be breeding again? Why would they be back after weeks? Any ideas???

I checked 3 sources & found that welcome swallows breed Aug - Dec so I doubt they're about to breed again soon. However, they're known to return to the same nest site or nearby when they do breed. Perhaps your swallows are simply checking to see that last breeding season's nest is still intact. If this is the case they may well return intermittently until Aug. Eyes open & report back, Araminta!

I also found that most of Victoria's welcome swallows migrate, probably north, but a few stay for winter. Your pair may be in the latter population.
