I headed west on Monday morning with a few friends to a place called Oakey about 200 kilometres from Brisbane where we had read about recent sightings of a Black-eared Cuckoo.
It was an early start but once you are up and on the way it's well worth the drive and little did I know that there was going to be plenty of new birds for me, nine in all. I missed some birds including a White-winged Triller and a painted Honeyeater.
Plum-Headed Finch, not a startling photograph but a Tick.
Australian Shoveler.
Fan-Tailed Cuckoo (immature).
Spiney-Cheeked Honeyeater.
Yellow-Throated Miner.
Weebill.
Eventually we found the Black-eared Cuckoo in the afternoon, taking my Australian photographed bird count to 236 now.
Nine new sightings is a great haul - congratulations - and good to get the one you set out looking for as well, the Black-eared Cuckoo. It would be four new ones for me from the ones you have posted.
Nice photos ... very nice of the wee bill Spiney-Cheeked Honeyeater.
That's a big day out for sure! Great variety and very jealous :-)
Congrats getting 9 new ones in the bag. I love the light on that Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, and the pose of the Fan-tailed Cuckoo.
