Where to find Variegated Fairy-wrens?

Hi everyone :)

A bird that has been eluding me for a while now is the Variegated Fairy-wren. I don't know why I'm finding them so difficult to track down but I'd really like to find some. Does anyone have a reliable location within 3 or 4 hours of Orange, NSW?

Thanks.

Check out E-bird records.

I always at least hear them around the Blue Mountains in some of the spots I visit. Also, Castlereagh Nature Reserve has an area, that usually has a reliable population, which I can hear or see every single time I visit.

It helps if you learn (or know) their calls, as you'll know their presence very quickly.

Any suitable habitat will turn them up. Just look at what they like and head out searching. They are very pretty (esp. the males).

Thanks for the tips. I combined both your advice by rechecking the ebird lists and heading west. It took a few hours and a couple of spots but I finally found some near West Wyalong. Yay!
