Young currawongs behaviour

Hi all,

We had a couple of currawongs nesting in the gum in the backyard. One little one appeared a couple of days ago just learning to fly! He spent the first night in an orange tree, parents were watching him and feeding him, then was making his way up the gum over the next two days, higher each time I saw him.

Yesterday we had a heatwave here (>40 degrees) and I haven't seen any of them from when I got home from work yesterday through today. Can't see anyone in the nest either usually you can see a tail poking over the edge.

Just wondering what the behaviour of young currawongs is? Do the parents take them wandering through their territory?

I hope they are OK and thought this may not be unusual. Also it's possible they're just quiet and high up in the tree although I think I would have seen at least one of them by now.

Sync, not sure about the currawong behavious, but I have noticed thismorning the birds are very quite around here.  We had a cooler front come in last night, quite windy and a welcomed relief after the heat wave. However thismorning its a bit bleak and overcast, and very quite compared to a normale dawn.   I have Currawongs live in the gums next to me, you would not know they are there at the moment.

Birds usually go quiet & take shelter in heat waves. A bit like humans, actually. Once cooler weather arrives I expect the Currawong family will be out & about foraging with the parents feeding the young to independence.
