bird calls

I am wondering if there is any place I can hear bird calls.

Where I live there has been  for 3 months now a single bird that start his [assumes he] call at 1 am about very sad noise goes long enough to wake you  and continues about 5 mins then stops long enough for you to dose off again  then he starts .

Have found out from neighbours in the street he tours tree near houses to wake us all.

we have tried to see the bird but he takes off to fast. stops calling in the morning   makes more at  afternoon.

Where are you at?

A recording of the bird call would confirm who the bird is.

I can only think of a Tawny Frogmouth. They make a deep, soft continous " oom oom"sound at night. But during the day they only make a clapping sound using their bill.

this bird is smart...said with sense of humour. I have tried to recorded the call with phone but of course he went quiet. I have a small recordering  of him but no where near as loud as he had been

Can you describe the bird's call? Try and put the sound into words. At the moment, I can only guess and my guess is also Tawny Frogmouth.

I was thinking it might be an Eastern Curlew or something similar (I can't remember exactly what) - but I have heard the haunting noise at night that I think you're talking about.

Edit: But Eastern Curlew makes no sense in Bendigo - will have to dig up what it is I'm thinking of.
