name the birds, please

I would like to make a general suggestion, if I may?

My observation is, lately more people are posting photos, (even more than just one), without naming the birds. I would appreciate if members would make an effort to tell me what bird is in the picture, even if you think it’s a common bird. Or if they don’t know, to post under ID. Sometimes I don’t know either, and it would save me having to get out books to ID. Also for the benefit of members that come here to learn about birds.

A little while ago someone criticised me, telling me, this forum is not about photography, but about birds.surprise

Well then, I agreeyes, that’s why I ‘d would love to know what kinds of birds are in the photos.

I’m sure , if posted under ID?, there will always be somebody who can help.

Thanks for making an effort.

Agreed. This site is firstly about birds, it's just that it's attracted many of us who love taking photos of birds.  I like to know the names of them too, but not just that, also the region where they were taken. It's not always obvious where a member lives so would be nice to know if it was Melbourne, Victoria, or Wimmera, Victoria, or Townsville, Qld and so on. Doesn't have to be the exact place but a general region which helps us to know whether or not we could expect to see a similar bird wherever we are located.

Agreed, some say if you hover your mouse over a picture, they have the name there. I use my iPad mostly (trying get time on the PC is almost impossible) and this does not work on iPad. Thanks for raising.

Agreed, pics in the Identifications thread should always have where taken as it can impact the ID.

Hi Kerry, where do you see the Pelicans? We have a couple at a lake near me and they are majestic to watch.

I love that we can come here to ID birds we don't recognise.
