A question in regards to endangered birds...

Hello all!

It's been too long since I was on here! I'm loving catching up on all the lovely bird photos :)

I just had a question and thought if anyone could answer it, it would be you guys! I'm wondering what the most reliable source would be for a 'top 10' most critically endangered bird list for Australia? I've done some research on it, but i'm finding that it's rather confusing trying to work out which lists are going to be reliable. I do understand that there are a huge number of 'at risk' birds in Australia, however i'm looking for a pretty specific list for a project of mine :)

Here are a few lists I found on the internet:

I really appreciate any help anyone can give me!

Hi Elsie, not sure if you looked at this one from the Australian Governmet Deptartment for the Environment and Energy.

it contains the list from the APBC Act list of threatened fauna. Like most things government, it can be heavy reading.

Thank you Dale! I had come across part of this, but not that page. Very helpful.

I'm in the process of writing a series of childrens picture books raising awarness for our endangered birds. As of now i'm only in the early stages :) Just trying to work out which ones I should really focus on, i'm beginning with the Orange-bellied parrot, then thought i'd do the Mallee Emu Wren. What do you think? That's why I was wondering if there was a small specific list :)

Thanks again!

The book sounds great Elsie. Not sure I can be of much more help. Certainly the OBP is in need of all the help it can get, but I suspect we are really close to losing them, not many came home this year apparently.

I hope you succeed in your plan and wish you all the best with it.
